Bangkit Story — Week 1

“Valentine berburu coklat ❌
Valentine berburu wangsit ilmu ✔️ ”

This parable I felt when one day before the opening Ceremony Bangkit 2022. hahaha…

Hi Everyone. I hope everyone who reads this blog is always healthy. As promised earlier, I will start writing stories and my experiences while at the Bangkit academy.

Before that, Why did I make the parable above? Yep, because February 14th, 2022 is the first day of the Bangkit and Valentine’s Day (the parable above fits my situation at that time. hahaha). According to the information on the Bangkit official website, this activity will be held from 14th February — 29th July 2022. On the first day, I attended the opening ceremony and technical brief.

The Opening Ceremony was held at 10.00 West Indonesian Time. The activity began with a speech from Mrs Muriel Makarim as the Head of Brand Marketing Google Indonesia. During her speech, she also explained the changes in the program from the previous year as well as statistics on the increase in participants this year. After the remarks, it was followed by a podcast guided by Prof. Ir. Nizam, PhD as Director-General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology with the 2 best graduates of Bangkit 2021, namely Kak Farrel Athaillah Putra and Kak Syfa Nur Aini. This session discusses the inspirational stories of the two sources, such as the story of Kak Farrell as one of the team leaders who received funding from kedaireka and the story of kak Syifa during college and joining Bangkit 2021. From their story, I was very touched and wanted to be like them. And finally, there was a talk with Bangkit’s founding partners (from GoTo and Traveloka) with university partners guided by Mrs Dora Songco as the Bangkit Lead Program. This session discusses the development of Bangkit since it was first implemented, the basis for implementing the Bangkit program, and expectations for Bangkit 2022 graduates.

opening ceremony Bangkit 2022

My first impression after attending the opening ceremony was cool and very grateful because I was able to be a part of Bangkit out of 63000 applicants (wow.. that’s a lot). After resting for a few hours, it was followed by a technical briefing session which was attended by all Bangkit 2022 participants via streaming youtube. Agenda in this session include welcoming, Insights from Industry Partners PIC, insights from 2022, code of conduct, learning method & curriculum, resources & requirements, and Student guide to Google meet and google classroom.

Tech Brief session — welcoming

This session started with a welcome greeting from Ms Mutiara Arumsari then continued with the delivery of insights from Bangkit Industry partners including from Traveloka (Juan Kanggrawan as Analytics lead & senior data product manager), DeepTech (Pandu Putra as Steering committee), and GoTo (Mutia Hersanti as Gojek’s product manager). After that, it was continued with the delivery of insights from Bangkit 2022 by Mrs Dora Songco who discussed new things this year (which is a lot). Then there was the delivery of the code of ethics, learning methods and curriculum by Adrianus Yoza Aprilio as Bangkit’s learning support manager and also the delivery of resources & requirements including accounts, site credentials, and requirements to complete the program, as well as regulations on google meet and goggle classroom by Deti Anggraini. The technical briefing ended with a question and answer session with the participants.

tech brief — code of conduct

TMI, one week before the activity started, we received an email containing a credential account that will be used during the activity, a welcome kit, a cohort guide, and a statement letter to participate in the activity. And got class tokens for matriculation week which are git and GitHub basic classes, programming fundamentals to become a software developer, and programming logic 101. And then, I was able to finish it.

In the first week, the participants, especially in the cloud computing learning path, will study the Basic Learning Web Programming class. This class discusses web basics such as basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. at the end of the class, there is a final exam and submission program to measure participants’ understanding. The knowledge that I got during this week includes basic HTML such as the basic HTML structure, elements and attributes used and generic elements. Other than that, CSS includes basic CSS, CSS usage, CSS concepts, selectors, properties, text styling, box elements, positioning, floating, and media queries.

My first impression during the first week was stiff because communicating with friends in a group had to use English. Besides that, because I had finished the class before, I just renewed my graduation certificate and re-studied the class.

I am happy to be able to study at Bangkit this year. and find new knowledge and new friends. Hopefully, this blog is useful for readers. I apologize if there are mistakes in terms of phrases, grammar, paraphrase or others. See you in the next blog.

And don’t forget,
Thank you Bangkit for the opportunity
